A Practical Bid/No-Bid Analysis for Small Contractors
Use a structured bid/no-bid analysis to find qualification barriers, evidence gaps, delivery risks, and response constraints before committing.
The decision the Fit Check should answer
A useful bid/no-bid analysis asks two questions: should the company pursue this opportunity, and what could prevent it from qualifying or competing credibly? The answer should separate hard eligibility barriers from issues that may be resolved through teaming, additional evidence, or a deliberate response strategy.
For a small contractor, the goal is not a universal score. It is a documented decision that reflects the solicitation and the evidence the company can actually support.
Review the opportunity in layers
- Eligibility, set-aside status, registrations, certifications, and mandatory qualifications
- Scope alignment with demonstrated capabilities and past performance
- Key-personnel, staffing, clearance, facility, and delivery requirements
- Evaluation criteria and the evidence available for each factor
- Schedule, pricing-input, teaming, and submission constraints
- Material unknowns that require customer research or agency clarification
Turn gaps into explicit decisions
A gap should be labeled as disqualifying, material, manageable, or unknown based on the source documents and company evidence. It should also have a next action: validate, obtain evidence, identify a teammate, request clarification, or decline the pursuit.
ContractQuill's Free Fit Check is designed for this bounded decision. It does not replace the customer's legal, pricing, certification, or capture judgment.
